From the recording Knock
A gospel song in the blues tradition. Growing up my family we did not attend any church or synagogue. My first church experience was around 5 years old. In the late 1950’s my brother and I were the only white children in an all black gospel church service. I can remember feeling completely loved by the people and the music.

I wanna pray every morning
Pray noon and night
Ask the Lord to guide me
Help set things right
Chorus:
Knock - - and the door will be open
Ask and it will be given
Knock - - and you will find
The Lord walks with you all the time
Early in the morning at the break of day
I want to get down on my knees and pray
I’m so sleepy, don’t know what to say
The Lord will show me the way
Chorus:
Father please listen to me
I can’t see the forest through the trees
Help me take a break, lead the way
In the middle of my day
Chorus:
In the cool of the evening there’s so much to share
Friends and neighbors in need of prayer
Please stop these monkeys jumping round in my head
When I go to bed
Chorus:
Repeat 1st verse
Chorus x2
