  1. It's My Turn

From the recording It's My Turn

At a rest stop while traveling the first line popped into my head watching a middle aged person helping an older person. (It's a pretty common sight!) I thought of the people I work with and the ways that I've been helped - people giving rides, sharing their wealth, meals and so much assistance. Now, it's my turn.

It’s my turn to hold your hand, to help you walk when you can’t stand
It’s my turn to lead the way as we shuffle through our days
You were there for me back then, when I didn’t know how or when
It’s my turn; it’s my turn to hold your hand

It’s my turn to sort things through when you don’t know what to do
It’s my turn to figure out what it’s all about
You were there when I made no sense, when the times got too tense
It’s my turn; it’s my turn to sort things through

It’s my turn to listen to you even when there’s nothing new
It’s my turn to recall what happened this past fall
You remember way back when and live it all again
It’s my turn; it’s my turn to listen to you

It’s my turn to watch you dream while I cook and clean
It’s my turn to get you dressed, to help you find some rest
You kept me warm and dry, held my hand when I didn’t know why
It’s my turn; it’s my turn to watch you dream
